Empowering Facility Professionals Worldwide

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The IFMA Calgary Chapter is calling on all of the IFMA Calgary community to help continue to bring unique opportunities to our members. We’re looking for thoughtful and dedicated leaders to join our volunteer Board of Directors. IFMA Calgary is seeking to fill the ranks of our Board of Directors with individuals who are active in the facility management community, have a passion for advancing and empowering the field of facilities management and are eager to put their enthusiasm and expertise to work on a local scale.

Terms on the Board of Directors are for one year, and are active year-round. The expectation of sitting on the Board of Directors is to participate in our once monthly board meeting, attend our events whenever possible, and to help with our annual planning session. In total, the commitment is as little as 2-3 hours a month, though more work serves the members and helps to improve our community!

Nominations will close on July 28. If needed, an election will follow, and the new Board will be ready to convene by early September.

Wayne Whitzell: Avoiding Death by PowerPoint

How to Give Better Presentations with Less Anxiety

The IFMA Greater Toronto & South Central Ontario Chapter is hosting a webinar across CANADA and all chapters are invited

At one time or another, we have all endured the grueling punishment of “Death by PowerPoint.”  Whether it is the “Presentation to Nowhere” or the all-too-common “Read Every Bullet on Every Slide to the Audience” presentation, or the “I Can’t Believe They Called a Meeting for THIS” presentation, we have either been personally subjected to this torture or worse yet, inflicted it on others.

The truth is that many of the PowerPoint presentations we have sat through should never have been given in the first place.  Sometimes, the best slide deck is the one that never happened.

So, what are we to do?  How can we communicate to our audience effectively and without putting them to sleep with “content rich” slides?  It begins with identifying which of the core types of presentations your information would best be suited, and which medium of communication will be most effective.  In many cases, that may not be a slide deck.

This is not a presentation about how to hold your hands or projecting your body language as you stand on the stage.  There are plenty of presentations on that topic available on YouTube.

This presentation will teach you that if you begin with simple and powerful content you will make a more powerful impression on your audience than a bloated slide deck that you just read back to them off the projection screen.  Lastly, if you experience nervousness when giving presentations, you will learn a 100% guaranteed method to end presentation anxiety once and for all.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learn to identify the three core presentation types and the most effective medium to communicate your information to your audience

  2. Learn how to create memorable and effective presentations with a simplified, "less-is-more" approach to content

  3. Learn the essential technical skills to create and execute successful presentations

  4. Learn a 100% GUARANTEED method to end nervousness and presentation anxiety
